Bayern Munich fans get déjà vu as Robert Lewandowski blames FC Barcelona teammates for scoring woes

Robert Lewandowski has a pretty simple playbook, one that he uses whenever he’s not scoring goals. At Bayern Munich he would blame his teammates for not creating enough chances — it seems that habit has followed him to FC Barcelona as well.

Speaking to Marca, the Polish striker reiterated his overall fitness, saying, “I think I can still play football for three or four years, because physically I feel very good.”

He proceeded to explain his team’s scoring woes this season, implicitly putting the blame on a lack of chance creation. “I know that we are Barcelona and everyone expects us, not only to win, but also to score a lot of goals. At the beginning of the season, not everything has been perfect and, of course, if we don’t create a lot of chances, it’s difficult to score goals.”

Maybe there’s someone missing …

Lewandowski himself is experiencing a particularly difficult moment in his career this season, finding goals much harder to come by than in previous years. The striker has only scored eight goals all season, out of which only a single one came in the Champions League. The forward also experienced a six game scoring drought which was ended with a brace against Alavés last month, but has not scored since.

Despite his issues, Lewandowski refused to blame the younger members of his Barcelona squad, instead praising them for their quality. “Lamine, Fermín and Balde? They have an incredible talent and, of course, they now feel that they are part of the club and the team. You have to find a good balance between protecting them and playing them, because it’s not easy for them, since we are talking about playing in Barcelona.”

“I feel very good,” insisted the 35-year-old. “I know that everything has gone well, not only inside the club but also outside since I see how the fans support me. I feel like I’m at the right place and the right time.”

Despite that, you get the feeling that he wouldn’t mind a Thomas Müller on the pitch next to him, perhaps.
