Sundowns to replace Rulani with 53-year-old coach?
Mamelodi Sundowns supporters are still likely in complete shock since. Kabo Yellow and Rulani Mokwena are parting ways. Meanwhile, reports say a possible replacement has been found.
MAMELODI SUNDOWNS TO CONFIRM RULANI MOKWENA DEPARTURE
Th 37-year-old coach from Soweto lifted the DStv Premiership and the African Football League, however, Mokwena did not lead Sundowns to success in the CAF Champions League, Nedbank Cup, MTN8 and Carling Knockout.
After winning the league with a record 73 points and only one defeat on the final day of the season, a fallout with the Sporting Director and failure to meet projected targets will see Mokwena exit Sundowns. Additionally, it is said that the club are not happy with the style of play, while Mokwena is also not in agreement with the player departures and signings. Reports say the club has offered Mokwena a settlement for his existing four-year contract.
“SABC Sport has it on good authority that Mamelodi Sundowns and coach Rulani Mokwena are in talks to cut ties just 12 months after agreeing a four-year contract,” the report said.
“The final and official decision is yet to be made following tense discussions, but the probability Mokwena will step down is high.
“It’s understood at the centre of this shocking development at Chloorkop is the broken working relationship between the coach and sporting director Flemming Berg,” the report said.
PATRICE CATERON TO BE ANNOUNCED AS THE NEW HEAD COACH?
In the meantime, Uplayable has reported that Sundowns have found a target. It is the Frenchman Patrice Cateron after he finished in seventh place with Umm Salal SC in Qatar.
“Former Al Ahly coach Patrice Carteron is likely to be the new Head Coach of Mamelodi Sundowns. The Frenchman has also previously coached TP Mazembe, Raja Casablanca, Zamalek and more recently with Qatar side, Umm Salal,” the outlet reported.
Why Cateron? The Frenchman is no stranger to success in Africa with four major titles.
