Several parts of northwest India have been shivering under cold wave conditions over the past few days. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), cold wave conditions are very likely in isolated pockets of northwest and some parts of east India.

Cold Wave Conditions:

Cold wave conditions are predicted in isolated pockets of Uttarakhand, Punjab, Haryana and West Uttar Pradesh on January 27 and 28. Similar weather conditions are likely to prevail over Odisha during the same time and over Bihar on January 27.

“Ground frost conditions very likely at isolated places over Uttarakhand during 26th night to 28th morning and over West Uttar Pradesh during 26th night to 27th Morning,” the IMD stated.

Dense Fog Conditions:

Dense to very dense fog is also predicted over northwest India. “Dense to very dense fog conditions very likely to prevail for a few hours in night/morning over many/most parts of Uttar Pradesh, some parts of Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh and in isolated pockets of Bihar during 26th night to 31st morning,” the MeT Department said.

Meanwhile, dense Fog conditions are very likely to prevail for a few hours in the morning in isolated pockets of Rajasthan till January 29 and over Uttarakhand and West Madhya Pradesh till January 28. Similar weather conditions are likely to prevail over Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim, Odisha, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura on January 27 and 28.

Cold Day Conditions:

Cold Day to Severe Cold Day conditions are very likely to continue in some/many parts of Uttar Pradesh and Bihar till January 30 and in isolated pockets of West Rajasthan till January 28.

Cold Day conditions are also likely to continue in isolated pockets of Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh and east Rajasthan till Saturday.

Minimum Temperature Forecast:

• Northwest and Central India: A gradual rise in minimum temperatures by two to three degree Celsius is likely for the next four to five days.
• West India: A gradual rise in minimum temperatures by two to three degree Celsius over Maharashtra is likely for the next three days and no significant change thereafter.
