ipl 2024: explained: why rishabh pant won player of the match award in dc’s thumping win over gt
Rishabh Pant-led Delhi Capitals (DC) registered their second win in a row, climbed to sixth place in the Indian Premier League (IPL) table, and began a race to make the playoffs after a horror start to the season with a thumping six-wicket win over Gujarat Titans (GT) at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Wednesday (April 17).
DC registered their biggest victory in IPL history in terms of balls remaining as they chased down the target of 90 with 67 balls left after completing the run-chase in just 8.5 overs. The Capitals registered a six-wicket victory as they outclassed GT in all three departments by putting up a near flawless performance.

Rishabh Pant has been in red-hot form in the 2024 IPL, but the Captials did not need his battig much as he walked out in the 5th over with the visitors just 25 runs away from a win. Pant remained unbeaten for a knock of 16 in 11 balls as the 2020 finalist registered their third win of the season.
However, Pant was awarded the POTM award in DC’s record-breaking victory. Darren Ganga revealed in the post-match presentation that Pant’s keeping, batting, and captaincy were the factors behind the decision. The DC skipper had a memorable day behind the stumps as he took two catches and completed two stumpings. The catch to dismiss David Miller and the stumping of Abhinav Manohar were two of the finest displays of the season.
In the post-match presentation, Pant expressed delight at his comeback and revealed he is feeling better with every game.

“The only thought process I had before coming to the field that I want to be coming in a better way. That’s the only thought process was in my mind whenever I was going through my rehab process and hopefully with each and every match I am feeling much better. Loving to be back on the field,” said Pant.
“There are a lot of things to be pleased about. We talked about the thought process with each and every player and today our team showed that we can play in that fashion. Really happy to see that…One of the best performances. It’s early in the tournament, I think we can improve each and every day as an individual but I think this has been so far one of our best bowling effort,” Pant added.
