‘Experience and form’: Virender Sehwag picks his strongest Team India playing XI for T20 World Cup
NEW DELHI: Former India cricketer Virender Sehwag has disclosed his top picks for India’s T20 World Cup 2024 playing XI, as the deadline for squad submission for the mega event looms on May 1.
Sehwag’s selections offer insights into the potential composition of India’s formidable lineup for the marquee event in the Americas.
In a recent appearance on the Club Prairie Fire podcast, Sehwag outlined his strongest XI, with emphasis on balancing experience and form.
Sehwag’s lineup featured young talent Yashasvi Jaiswal alongside captain Rohit Sharma for the opening slots, followed by stalwarts Virat Kohli and Suryakumar Yadav at numbers three and four, respectively.
The wicketkeeper’s role was entrusted to Delhi Capitals skipper Rishabh Pant, who has staged a remarkable comeback in the ongoing IPL season after recovering from a life-threatening car accident in December 2022.
To bolster the team’s lineup, Sehwag proposed the inclusion of either Rinku Singh or Shivam Dube.
His bowling lineup comprised spinners Ravindra Jadeja and Kuldeep Yadav, complemented by pacers Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj, and Sandeep Sharma.
Sehwag’s selections underscore the intricate balance between experience and youthful vigor, as Team India gears up to assemble a formidable squad for the T20 World Cup.
