In a significant achievement for the Central Reserve Police Forces (CRPF), their ongoing efforts to reintegrate Naxals into mainstream society have yielded results. On Tuesday, 26 Naxals, comprising 6 women and 20 men, surrendered before the CRPF, just ahead of the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.

This development is being hailed as a major breakthrough, underscoring the effectiveness of the central forces’ strategy in exerting pressure on Naxal elements in the region, particularly in Dantewada, to surrender.

The group surrendered, along with their weapons, at an event held in Dantewada.

This surrender comes in the wake of the “Lon Varatu” (Come Back Home) campaign, which has been instrumental in convincing Maoists to lay down their arms. Additionally, one individual with a bounty on their head also surrendered.

The surrendered Maoists were known to be active in various regions, including Kistaram, Bhairamgarh, Malanger, and Katekalyan Area Committee.

All the surrendered Maoists were involved in activities such as road blockades, tree felling, and displaying Naxalite propaganda during Naxal bandhs.

IG CRPF P Sundar Raj announced that this recent surrender marks the latest group of Naxals to lay down their arms. Providing insight into the broader impact of the Lon Varatu campaign, he revealed that a total of 717 Naxals have surrendered to date, with 176 among them being individuals with bounties on their heads.
