Pakistan’s recent shift in tactics along the border has been noticed by Indian intelligence agencies. Recent reports indicate a significant decrease in terrorist activity stemming from Pakistani border outposts in the last six months.

According to top intelligence sources, Pakistani forces were earlier aiding terrorists with infiltration and tunnel construction apart from other activities. The change in behaviour seems to be a response to increased pressure and vigilance from Indian security forces.

After tunnels were detected in 2021 followed by reports of terrorist activity near border outposts (BOP), Indian officials raised concerns and heightened troop readiness. This proactive stance seems to have deterred Pakistan from continuing its support to terrorist operations along the border.

Sources further said Pakistani forces were involved in helping terrorists with infiltration plans, tunnel digging and other activities till June 2023. There were reports that terrorists were treating BOPs as their transit point before entering Indian sides.

In 2022, there were multiple reports claiming that terrorists are trying to create tunnels with the help of Pakistani forces after the BSF detected them in 2021. A senior government official aware about the development said in September 2022, there was a report that specifically highlighted BOPs used by terrorists.

Later, security forces deployed on the ground were alerted and troops were asked to be on high alert. In January 2023, another report pointed at infiltration by Pakistan-based terrorists facilitated by their forces.

Launchpads moved

A senior official told News18 that terror outfits have moved their launchpads, which are now away from the actual border. Due to India’s long-range surveillance system, terror outfits are trying to hide and are moving their launchpads kilometres away from the border as a safer option.

Officials also said due to less snowfall this year, it will be challenging for the security forces to deal with infiltration as change in weather conditions helps terror outfits.
