CBI launches dedicated email address for complaints by Sandeshkhali victims

NEW DELHI: The CBI has created a designated email address, [email protected], where victims of land grab in Sandeshkhali can submit their complaints, officials said on Thursday.

“The District Magistrate, North 24 Parganas has also been requested to give adequate publicity of the said email ID in the locality and also issue a public notice in the vernacular dailies having a wide circulation in the areas as per the Hon’ble High Court’s order,” a CBI spokesperson mentioned in a statement.

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) will commence registering cases based on the complaints it receives, according to sources.

On Wednesday, the high court mandated a court-monitored CBI inquiry into allegations of crimes against women and land grabbing in Sandeshkhali, emphasizing the necessity of an “impartial inquiry” in the interest of justice and fair play.

The court instructed the CBI to compile a comprehensive report regarding the alleged illegal conversion of agricultural land into water bodies for pisciculture, following a thorough examination of the revenue records and physical inspection of the land purportedly converted.

The court has requested the central agency to present a comprehensive report during the next hearing scheduled for May 2.

Furthermore, the state government has been instructed to extend necessary support to the CBI.

The agency is presently investigating three cases related to attacks on Enforcement Directorate officials in Sandeshkhali, allegedly by a mob instigated by Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader Shahjahan Sheikh.
