dubai vs mumbai: jet airways ex-ceo designate slams anand mahindra for dubai flood clip
Mahindra Group Chairman Anand Mahindra is facing backlash over his recent post about the Dubai flood. Sharing a video of the flood situation in Dubai on X (formerly Twitter), Mahindra wrote: “Nope. Not Mumbai. Dubai…”. Reacting to the post, former Jet Airways CEO Sanjiv Kapoor stated that it is “an incorrect analogy.” “Dubai was not built for such heavy rains – rains that would flood most cities. A better analogy would be if it suddenly snowed heavily in Bombay, which obviously was not built to handle snow at all. Would people in snowy Oslo mock Bombay?” he wrote.
In a subsequent post, Kapoor clarified that Mr. Mahindra’s tweet might not have been intended as mockery towards Dubai. “Upon re-reading the post, it seems the tone may not have been mocking Dubai. Nevertheless, the fundamental point stands that Dubai was not designed to withstand heavy rains, regardless of how the rain occurred (whether natural or artificial). It’s impractical to construct cities to manage every possible extreme weather scenario, no matter how improbable,” he stated.
The video shared by the Mahindra group boss showed cars submerged in water. The video also showed luxury cars stranded in traffic due to waterlogged roads.
Dubai experienced a standstill due to severe storms causing widespread flooding across the UAE and Bahrain.
Intense rainfall flooded roads, residences, and shopping centers, resulting in a temporary shutdown of operations at Dubai’s international airport, with incoming flights redirected.
The primary shopping centers, Dubai Mall and Mall of the Emirates, were impacted by the floods, and water levels reached ankle-deep at one Dubai Metro station.
