Dodgers closer placed on IL after suffering weird injury
Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Evan Phillips.
Los Angeles Dodgers closer Evan Phillips will miss some time due to a hamstring injury he suffered in a rather unusual way.
Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said Sunday that Phillips will be placed on the injured list with what is hoped to be a short-term injury. The closer was hurt when his spike got caught in the grass while playing catch on Saturday.
It sounds like Phillips was the victim of an accident that, fortunately, is not serious. The 29-year-old has been lights out as the Dodger closer this season, posting an ERA of 0.66 with eight saves in 14 appearances in 2024.
