The much-awaited ‘Surya Tilak’ ceremony of Ram Lalla’s idol began in the ‘garbh griha’ of Ayodhya’s Ram Mandir on Wednesday, amidst the first time Ram Navami celebrations at the temple.
The ceremony was scheduled to take place from 12:16 pm to 12:21 pm when rays of the sun symbolically marked the forehead of Ram Lalla’s idol. The celebrations mark the first big religious occasion after the consecration of Ram Lalla in January this year.
The ‘Surya tilak’ of the deity was made possible by an elaborate mechanism, developed by Central Building Research Institute (CBRI) scientists, involving mirrors and lenses.
Experts from the CBRI camped in Ayodhya to lay down an optomechanical system on the ground floor of the temple in collaboration with scientists from the Indian Institute of Astrophysics-Bengaluru. The system was tested by the scientists on Tuesday.
