r ashwin reacts after jasprit bumrah dethrones him to become new world no. 1 test bowler
Jasprit Bumrah created history on Wednesday (Friday 7) by becoming the first Indian pacer to become the world No. 1 Test bowler. The 30-year-old moved to the No. 1 ranking in Tests after taking up a total of nine wickets in the second Test against England, which was played in Visakhapatnam. Bumrah removed senior Indian spinner Ravichandran Ashwin from the top spot, who dropped to No. 3 after only managing to take three wickets in the second innings.
After Bumrah removed him from the top spot and played a big role in India’s win in the second Test against the English team, Ashwin praised Bumrah and said that he is a big fan of India’s Test vice captain.
Speaking in a video uploaded on his YouTube channel, Ashwin, who has 499 Test wickets to his name, said that “BoomBall” was the real show-stealer in Vizag during India’s 106-run win.
“The real show stealer was BoomBall. Jasprit Bumrah has bowled extraordinarily. He is the leading wicket-taker with 14 wickets and also the No. 1-ranked Test bowler. I am a huge fan of him, and this is a Himalayan feat,” said Ashwin.
Bumrah dismissed a total of six English batters in the first innings of the 2nd Test and then managed to pick up three more wickets in the second inning. With a total of 15 wickets to his name, Bumrah is the leading wicket-taker in the ongoing Test series.
By reaching the No. 1 position in Tests, Bumrah also created history by becoming the first bowler to reach the No. 1 position in the ICC rankings in all three formats of the game at least once in his career.
Bumrah, who made his Test debut for India against South Africa in Cape Town on January 5, 2018, has 155 wickets to his name in 34 Tests.
