New Delhi: A day after declining Ram Mandir ‘Pran Pratishtha’ event invite, Prakash Ambedakar slammed the Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) and Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) of “using the Ram Mandir inauguration for its electoral gains.” The grandsaon of BR Ambedkar had yesterday said that he received a formal invite for the event but had decided to not be a part of it as he accused the Central government of politicising a religious event.

Notably, the Ram Mandir inauguration is taking place right ahead of the crucial general elections which will decide the fate of BJP as well as the Opposition, which is leaving no stone unturned to corner Prime Minister Narendra Modi in an attempt to strengthen their vote bank.

“In the last 10 years, BJP-RSS has appropriated many Indian icons and their legacies — Babasaheb Ambedkar, Sardar Vallabhai Patel, Tagore, Bhagat Singh — because it doesn’t have any within its ranks. Now, BJP-RSS, without any morals and principles, is trying to appropriate God by using the Ram Mandir inauguration for its electoral gains. BJP-RSS is using God like EVM! Shame!,” he tweeted.

The much-awaited event will take place on January 22 where thousands of VIP guests, including politicians, celebrities from sports and cinema world as well as saints will take part. However, most Opposition leaders have backed out of the event.

Echoing the remarks of Opposition leaders, Prakash said “a religious event has become a political campaign”. He took to X (formerly Twitter) to share images of the invite and said that his grandfather had warned him that if “parties place creed above country, our independence will be put in jeopardy a second time and probably be lost for ever.”

He wrote on X, “I received an invitation for the inauguration of Ram Mandir in Ayodhya. I will NOT be attending the said event because the event has been appropriated by the BJP-RSS; a religious event has become a political campaign for electoral gains. My grandfather Dr. B.R. Ambedkar warned that “that if the parties place creed above country, our independence will be put in jeopardy a second time and probably be lost for ever.”

He added, “The fear of my grandfather has become a reality today. BJP-RSS, which “place creed over country” has appropriated the religious event for its political gains. Jai Phule. Jai Savitri. Jai Shahu. Jai Bhim.”
