Bihar: Goods Train Carrying Military Equipment Derails Near Samastipur Division, Services Hit

Train operations at the Bagaha station of Bihar’s Samastipur division were disrupted after two wagons of a goods train derailed on Tuesday evening. This further led to the diversion of some of the trains and the operations of a few trains passing through this section were also closed partially. The train was carrying military equipment and army personnel. It was on its way from Rajasthan to West Bengal when the incident occurred at railway crossing number 50C of the Gorakhpur- Bettiah rail section, in Bihar’s West Champaran district, reported news agency IANS.

Following the incident, the train reportedly split into two parts. The army personnel managed to escape successfully following the derailment, IANS reported.

The operations to clear the tracks and resume the movements of trains are currently underway.

DRM Samastipur Railway Division, Vinay Kumar Srivastava commented on the incident saying that the train wagons derailed due to load shifting. He further stated: “Both the lines – up and down – are fit. No damage to railway property occurred. There have been no casualties or injuries.”

In another similar incident, four coaches of Sabarmati Express along with its engine derailed near Ajmer on March 18. As per officials, no casualties were reported and immediate action was taken to proceed with the restoration work.

Following the derailment, the rear portion of the train was taken to Ajmer. Six trains from the northwestern railways were cancelled and two others were diverted on Monday after the incident, TOI reported.
