Bank holiday Monday weather forecast: Some sunshine but further showers (May 6)
Hello there. Welcome to your latest weather update from the Met Office. What as we go through this new week, the weather is set to change for the better. If you’re looking for some drier weather that is, we start to say goodbye to areas of low pressure as this area of high pressure begins to move in and really dominate proceedings as we head towards the middle of the week. Exceptions the very far northwest of the country, weather fronts here just try to move in from time to time just giving some Claudia and some wetter weather here. But for most of us, middle of the week onwards looks fairly dry indeed. Back to the here and now. That’s not quite there just yet. We’ve still got some heavy rain to contend with down towards the southeastern corner, especially for parts of Kent and Sussex, and really going to linger here for much of the day. Well, it’s a quite a cloudy picture for parts of Scotland and Northern Ireland, with some outbreaks of rain, especially across eastern and central Scotland. Elsewhere there will be some bright spells, but that in turn will trigger some fairly heavy showers in places. So if you do have travel plans throughout the day today, just do take a little bit of extra time for your journeys because there could just be some heavy rain almost anywhere really across the country. But where we do see the sunshine it will feel fairly warm. Highs reaching around 18 or 19°, but if you’re stuck under the cloud, especially across eastern parts of Scotland, northeastern England feeling fairly cool here. Highs only really struggling to reach around 11 to 13° so it’s certainly a little bit below par for where we should expect this time in May. So into this evening a lot of the showers gradually beginning to fade away and also the area of rain across SE England just gradually moving towards the continent. So by the end of the night much of the UK turning dry with some clearer skies, especially across parts of Northern Ireland and Eastern England. The central slice probably remaining fairly cloudy with some outbreaks of rain just continuing for Scotland and northern England. But where we do see the clearer skies, we’ll see a little bit of mist and fog form, and also turning quite chilly compared to recent nights. Could see lows falling down to about two to three degrees in the countryside. But for Northern Ireland and eastern England, once any early mist and fog clears, a lovely start to Tuesday morning. Elsewhere a lot of cloud around but I’m optimistic, especially across more southern parts of the UK, we will see some brightness breakthrough, but that may in turn trigger a few showers. They won’t be anywhere near as heavy or as frequent as Monday, but nonetheless there will still be a few around Scotland unfortunately really remaining fairly grey here apart from the far north of Scotland. Here actually we will see some sunshine as the afternoon goes on. Temperature wise really dictated once again whether or not you have cloud or sunshine. Where you do see the sunshine Highs reaching 20, possibly maybe even 21° in the odd spot but stuck under the cloud, especially again across parts of eastern Scotland. Temperatures really struggling. Only highs of 12 to possibly 13° then having a look at Wednesday. Wednesday starts to see the high pressure really dominate across the UK. So as you can see, not a raindrop on this screen. So a largely dried day on Wednesday. Not water or sunshine by any means. There’ll be a fair bit of cloud around, but there will also be some sunshine in places and highs ranging between the mid teens, possibly the low 20s across more southern parts of the country. But do watch out for higher pollen levels as we go through the week ahead as the settled weather begins to build across the UK. But you can find out more about that on our social media channels.
