Lok Sabha elections 2024 bank holidays: The Lok Sabha Election 2024 starts on April 19 and ends with results announced on June 4, 2024. Many banks in respective cities will be closed on the first election day. Some states have also declared a paid or public holiday for residents on voting day.
Cities affected on April 19
As per an ET report, on April 19, banks in Chennai, Dehradun, Itanagar, Jaipur, Kohima, Nagpur, and Shillong will be closed due to various elections, including the Lok Sabha General Elections 2024, Arunachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly Election 2024, and a Bye-Election to the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly from Vilavancode Constituency, Kanyakumari District.

The Lok Sabha Election 2024 will unfold in seven phases:
– Phase 1: April 19
– Phase 2: April 26
– Phase 3: May 7
– Phase 4: May 13
– Phase 5: May 20
– Phase 6: May 25
– Phase 7: June 1
State declarations
Ahead of the election, some states have made special provisions:
– Uttarakhand: The Uttarakhand government has announced April 19 as a public holiday, the day of voting, ahead of the nation’s Lok Sabha elections. This directive was issued by the Uttarakhand government’s General Administration Department on Tuesday.
– Nagaland: The Home Department of Nagaland has declared that all employees in the state, including those from government, private, and business sectors, will be granted paid time off on Friday, April 19, 2024, which is the day of voting. This decision aims to facilitate their participation in exercising their right to vote during the upcoming General Election to the Lok Sabha. It aligns with Section 135B of the Representation of the People Act, 1951.
– Tamil Nadu: The Tamil Nadu government has declared April 19 as a public holiday in view of the general elections scheduled for all 39 Lok Sabha seats and the by-poll for the Vilavancode Assembly constituency.

According to ET, the states where a bank holiday has been declared for April 19, 2024, due to elections include Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Rajasthan, Sikkim, Tamil Nadu, Tripura, Uttar Pradesh, and Uttarakhand.
Additional bank holiday on April 20
On April 20, which falls on the third Saturday, banks in Tripura will remain closed due to Garia Puja celebrations.
