AWS will boost investments in Singapore's cloud infrastructure by $9 billion, country manager says
Thank you JP for having me here. Look, I’m super excited about the 12 billion investment over the next five years through to 2028. And you know the investment will go into the construction and build up of the DC capabilities all associating with the Asia Pacific, Singapore region. Also in the economic impact studies that we released today, that’s going to support about 12,300 jobs annually across board. But what I’m also very excited is around the launch of our AWSAI Spring program in line with our national AI strategy, right. I I want to get to the AAI Spring program in just a little bit, but you know 12 billion Singapore dollars. So I’m not mistaken that double s your footprint here in Singapore to about 23 1/2 to about 23 billion or over 23 billion by 2028. Now that’s about 4 1/2 years away, but have has Amazon Web Services already deployed or some of this capital or some of this investment and where exactly is the are the initial investments at least for this year going to 1st? Well, you know, it’s going to go into the capital and operating expenses of the Singapore region itself. You know, if you think about the construction of our data centers, the operating operations, the maintenance, the rental utilities and you know, all these investments will go into supporting industries like telecommunication, energy, water and DC operations, right. But more importantly, you know, as part of this, yeah, go ahead, go ahead. Don’t let, don’t let me, don’t. Let me interrupt you. Go ahead. No, as part of this the AI Spring program is really something that we’re looking forward to, to uplift our AI capabilities across the nation. So this is something that you know we, we we are looking forward to in building AAI enabled workforce, right. And if I’m not mistaken the AI Spring Singapore program has about 6 pillars. I want to zero in on one particular area, the AI Spring workforce. We did speak to Amazon’s CT over in their Vogels the other other the other week actually and talked about Amazon’s initiatives to make sure that workforces not just here in Singapore but across the world are actually trained up to meet the demands of of AI as it transforms businesses. Just exactly what are some of these skills that Amazon will be needing or demanding from its future workforces to to meet the the the new realities that artificial intelligence is, is transforming Amazon into. Yeah. So since 2017, we have trained more than 400,000 individuals in cloud skills. And going forward as part of the AI Spring program in particular to your question on the workforce is about collaborating with Institute of Higher Learnings like universities, Polytechnics and ITE. In fact, today we sign Amou with ITE to provide AI curricular into training all their students.
