‘We declare war on Pakistan’: Who are the Baloch separatists targeted in Iran
In a dramatic escalation of regional tensions, Pakistan conducted airstrikes on Thursday against Baloch separatist groups within Iranian territory. The strikes, which left nine dead, were a response to an earlier missile attack by Iran on militant bases in Pakistan’s Balochistan, which Tehran claims were harbouring anti-Iranian fighters.
The Balochistan Liberation Army, a separatist group active in the region since 2000, said in a statement that the Pakistani strikes in Iran’s Sistan-Baluchestan province targeted and killed its people.
“Pakistan will have to pay a price for it,” the group warned. “Now the Baloch Liberation Army will not remain silent. We will avenge it and we announce war on the state of Pakistan.”
