brisbane heat handed five penalty runs following amelia kerr’s catch with towel- watch
The Brisbane Heat were slapped with a five-run penalty during their match against the Sydney Sixers in the Women’s Big Bash League on Tuesday after Amelia Kerr got hold of the ball with a towel in her hand. In the 10th over of the Sixers’ run chase, she bowled one on leg stump and Ashleigh Gardner drove her down the ground for a single.
The fielder threw it back to Kerr who caught the ball with the towel. Apparently, that is an offence as per ICC rules and the Heat were handed a five-run penalty.
The game, at that point, was in the balance with the Sixers requiring 103 runs to win from 10.5 overs.

Kerr scored 64 crucial runs with the bat in the first innings but gave away 39 runs in her three overs. The Sixers chased down the 177-run target in the penultimate ball of the innings.
With the Heat struggling at 19/2 in the fourth over, Kerr scored 64 off 44 deliveries with 10 boundaries. She was run out in the final over by Gardner, helping the Heat post 176/7. Her older sister Jess, who plays for the Sixers, picked two wickets in her four overs.
Heat are placed fourth on the points table with 14 points from 13 games, while Sixers are placed fifth with 12 points from the same number of matches. Both sides have one game left in the league stage and are still in with an opportunity to move into the playoffs.
