‘Ab ki baar Robert Vadra’ posters in Amethi spark nomination buzz

Days after Priyanka Gandhi’s husband, Robert Vadra, expressed his desire to contest from the prestigious Amethi Lok Sabha seat, several posters were put up on Wednesday outside the Congress office supporting his candidature.

A video shared by news agency ANI showed posters reading, “Amethi ki janta kare pukaar, Robert Vadra abki bar (People of Amethi call for Robert Vadra this time)”.

With the nomination filing deadline approaching, the posters have sparked speculation about his potential candidacy. The development comes amid rumours that Rahul Gandhi may enter the fray from his erstwhile bastion.

Earlier last month, Robert Vadra hinted at joining active politics, saying that the people of Amethi expect him to make his political debut from the constituency.

Speaking to ANI, Vadra said that the people of Amethi were upset with sitting MP Smriti Irani and wanted a member of the Gandhi family to return.

“Whoever represents Rae Bareli or Amethi must work for the progress of people, their security and should not play politics of discrimination. The people of Amethi are very upset with their current Member of Parliament,” Vadra said.

“They believe that they made a mistake as she doesn’t visit (her constituency) often. She does not think about the progress of the area. She only cares about levelling accusations against the Gandhi family, demeaning them and misusing her power,” he added.

Meanwhile, the Congress has not revealed its candidate in the party’s stronghold, Amethi. In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, BJP’s Smriti Irani defeated Rahul Gandhi from Amethi, a seat which he had represented for 15 years.
