The Malayalam film Action Hero Biju, directed by Abrid Shine and starring Nivin Pauly and Joju George in primary roles, was a revelation for Malayalam audiences back in 2016. Set around the daily events in the life of a police officer in a small police station in Kochi, the film showcased the kind of cases, both heart-wrenching and funny, that cops have to deal with on a daily basis.

Needless to say, the film was critically acclaimed for its brilliant portrayal of a cop’s life. What’s more, it was also a huge commercial success.

The Official Announcement

The success of the film had led the film’s lead actor Nivin Pauly to announce a sequel to the film earlier this year. The Malayalam actor took to X to share an image of the sequel’s script and called the reception for the original film “heartwarming and welcoming”.

He wrote, “It’s been eight years since #ACTIONHEROBIJU hit the screens. Since then, the love and appreciation for the film have been so heartwarming and welcoming. Today, we’re beyond excited and thrilled to unveil the long-anticipated part 2 of #AHB! Rolling soon… #AHB2 #AbridShine (sic).”

A Game Changer

We now have reports that the cast and crew of the film have started shooting some important portions in Kolkata. Along with Nivin Pauly, Joju George will return to play the character that got him noticed in a big way and set his career soaring. It is also reported that Anu Emmanuel, who played the role of Nivin’s fiancée in the original, will have a more significant role in the sequel.

The film is also remembered for a cameo by National Award winner Suraj Venjarammoodu, a role which was minimal in screen time, but is said to be the one that transformed him from being just yet another comedy actor to a leading man now.
