2024 World Car Awards – BMW 5 Series/i5 is the 2024 World Luxury Car
BMW has won the 2024 World Luxury Car for the 5 Series family. This consists of the sedan, estate and electric i5 models. For BMW, this is the ninth award in the World Car Awards’ 20-year history. BMW Group India is expected to introduce the new 5 Series and i5 in India this year.Â
Bernd Körber, Senior Vice President BMW Brand and Product Management, Connected Company said, “We are very pleased to receive this prestigious award. The verdict of the international jury shows that our strong-character products with their typical BMW qualities convince and inspire demanding target groups all over the world.”
A jury of 100 distinguished international automotive journalists from 29 countries selected the winners by secret ballot based on their evaluation of each eligible vehicle as part of their on-going professional work. The vote results were tabulated by KPMG. Yogendra Pratap, Editor, Auto Today is a juror in the World Car Awards.Â
The BMW 5 Series / i5 was chosen from an initial entry list of thirteen vehicles from all over the world then a short list of three finalists as announced at the Geneva International Motor Show (GIMS). The 2024 Top Three in the World finalists are the BMW 5 Series / i5, the Mercedes-Benz E-Class and the Mercedes-Benz EQE SUV. Vehicles eligible for World Luxury Car must be produced in volumes of at least 5,000 units/year, must be priced at the luxury-car level in their primary markets, and must be “on-sale” in at least two major markets (China, Europe, India, Japan, Korea, Latin America, USA) on at least two separate continents within the period January 1, 2023 and March 30, 2024.Â
Last year, the 2023 World Luxury Car title was given to the Lucid Air electric sedan.Â
