Guwahati: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday said that West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee was “very close” to him. Gandhi’s remarks came after Congress MP Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury lashed out at the West Bengal CM over seat-sharing in the state.
Referring to Chowdhury’s sharp comments against Banerjee, Gandhi, who is leading the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra, says that sometimes remarks of our leaders “won’t matter”. He added that seat-sharing talks with the Banerjee-led Trinamool Congress (TMC) is on.
“Mamata Banerjee is very close to me. Sometimes our leaders say something. Such comments won’t matter,” Gandhi said as reported by India Today. The Congress leader said that he had invited Banerjee and Bihar CM Nitish Kumar when his yatra would pass through their respective states.
Earlier, Chowdhury had reportedly lashed out at Banerjee calling her “opportunist”. He said that the Congress would contest the Lok Sabha Elections 2024 WIth Banerjee’s assistance. Chowdhury’s remarks came after reports surfaced that the TMC would be contesting all 42 seats in West Bengal in the upcoming Parliamentary polls.
