Lyricist Gulzar receives Jnanpith award, Shankar Mahadevan congratulates him

Shankar Mahadevan shared a candid picture of himself with renowned poet, lyricist and filmmaker Gulzar on Instagram to congratulate him on receiving the Jnanpith Award. The 89-year-old poet was announced as the recipient of the 58th Jnanpith Award along with Sanskrit scholar Jagadguru Rambhadracharya.

On Monday, February 19, Shankar Mahadevan shared the picture on Instagram and wrote, “Heartiest congratulations to my dearest and the greatest @gulzar_poetry for being awarded the prestigious Gyanpeeth award! I feel so blessed to be able to spend such beautiful creative moments with you !! Love you sir !! @meghnagulzar (sic).”Â

In the picture, Shankar and Gulzar sat beside each other engaged in conversation, both wearing smiles. Shankar appeared in a traditional black ensemble, while Gulzar chose a white kurta-pyjama.

The selection committee has announced that the 58th Jnanpith Award for the year 2023 has been given to Swami Rambhadracharya for Sanskrit and Shri Gulzar for Urdu.

Sampooran Singh Kalra, popularly known as Gulzar, is renowned for his remarkable contributions to Hindi cinema through his unforgettable songs. He began his career as a lyricist with the film ‘Kabuliwala’, featuring Balraj Sahni. Over the years, he has written numerous songs and scripts for various films and has also directed several highly acclaimed feature films, including ‘Maachis’, ‘Aandhi’, ‘Mausam’, ‘Khushboo’, ‘Parichay’, and ‘Koshish’.
