not yashasvi jaiswal! nathan lyon feels 24-year-old left-handed batter is ‘going to be a superstar’
Legendary Australian spinner Nathan Lyon has reserved massive praise for a 24-year-old star batter and has predicted that the youngster is going to be a superstar in the future. The 36-year-old Lyon, who became the seventh highest wicket-taker in Test cricket on Friday (March 1), is impressed by New Zealand youngster Rachin Ravindra, who was on fire in the ODI World Cup 2023 for the Black Caps and then maintained his rich form in the Test series against South Africa as well.
Speaking to reporters at the end of the third day’s play of the ongoing first Test between New Zealand and Australia at the Basin Reserve in Wellington, Lyon hailed Ravindra as a budding superstar and said he seems like a good player.
“Rachin seems like a really good player. This is the first time I’ve bowled to him; I watched a lot of him during the ODI World Cup, and he is going to be a superstar,” Lyon said.
The 24-year-old Rachin is playing in the ongoing first Test of the two-match series against Australia and was unbeaten on 56 runs in the second innings at the end of the third day’s play in Wellington.
He holds the key for the Kiwis in the run chase, as they still need 258 runs in the remaining two days to get the better of Australia and go 1-0 up in the bilateral series.
The Kiwis are currently reeling at 111 for 3 in 41 overs. Despite the match being evenly poised at the moment, Lyon is confident about Australia’s chances of getting the better of New Zealand and winning the match.
“But I know if we can put pressure on them and challenge their defence for long periods of time, hopefully we can crack them,” Lyon added.
