KKR vs LSG: West Indies sensation Shamar Joseph bowls 10-ball over on IPL debut

West Indies fast bowling sensation Shamar Joseph had a terrible time bowling his first over in the Indian Premier League 2024. Playing his first match of the tournament against KKR, Shamar was wayward in his very first over and gave away 22 runs. Shamar found pace and swing in the first over at Eden Gardens on Sunday, 14 April but was not able to manage his length well.

Shamar ended up bowling several extras (1B, 1 LB, 6 Wd and 2 NB) in his very first over which lasted 10 balls. Shamar gave away 22 runs in his opening over – LSG’s second in the powerplay, and was removed from the attack straightaway by captain KL Rahul.

Shamar’s Joseph’s first over in IPL was - 0 L1 4 2 B1 N Wd Wd5 N 6.

The pacer was able to crank up the heat to 150KMPH and even bowled a couple of great deliveries in his first over. He found swing and bounce on the day but was unable to control the new ball well. Captain KL Rahul walked up to the pacer after the over and had a one-on-one chat with him.

Shamar Joseph rounded of an incredible debut month for the West Indies by becoming the first player from the Caribbean to win the prestigious ICC Player Of The Month award for January 2024.

The West Indies pacer beat Ollie Pope and Josh Hazlewood to bag the award.

Shamar delivered a sensational performance during the series against Australia that made the world take notice of the pacer. Despite being a newcomer to international cricket, his impact was immediate and profound. In a dramatic day-night Test match at the Gabba in Brisbane, he achieved a remarkable feat by taking 7 wickets for 68 runs, propelling the West Indies to their first Test victory on Australian soil in 27 years.

Joseph’s heroics came despite suffering a toe injury from a Mitchell Starc yorker, which had him hobbling off the field the previous day. Yet, he overcame the pain to dismantle the Australian batting lineup with sheer pace, reaching speeds close to 150 kph (93 mph).

Shamar also clinched the Player Of The Series award, having picked a five-wicket haul in the first Test as well.
