Kindergarten Cop child star reveals all about working with Arnold Schwarzenegger on 1990 classic and unveils surprising origin of THAT iconic line

Kindergarten Cop child star Miko Hughes has opened up about working with Arnold Schwarzenegger on the 1990 classic - and revealed the origin of the film's most famed line.

In Kindergarten Cop, Schwarzenegger played an LAPD detective who goes undercover as a kindergarten teacher in order to find a witness who can testify against a drug dealer and murderer.

Hughes, now 38, worked alongside Schwarzenegger when he was just four-years-old - playing the quirky Joseph, who was later revealed to be the son of a gynecologist.

One of the film's most memorable scenes sees Joseph tell his teacher: 'Boys have a penis and girls have a vagina.'

During an appearance on the Full House Rewind podcast, Hughes said:  'I think I was the youngest one in the classroom on Kindergarten Cop. The stories that I'm told, you know, from my parents, [is that] they didn't have a line for me. I didn't have lines written. Some of it was written as developed on set.

'The story I'm told is that they came to my parents and said they [wanted me] to say this line that's kind of provocative.'

'I guess my mom said she took a couple of days. She was like, 'This is kind of crazy. I don't know. Is it good? Is it bad?'

'She thought, 'That's gonna be the line everyone remembers' and went for it,"

'And, yeah, now I'll forever be known as the "boys have a penis, girls have a vagina" kid.'

He praised the Terminator star, saying: 'He was very kind to all of the kids He was Mr. Serious Action Star and this was kind of a character break.

'Kind of fish-out-of-water situation for him, which was great. It seemed to do very well for him.'

As well as Kindergarten Cop Hughes is known for his roles as Gage Creed in Pet Sematary (1989), Apollo 13 (1995), Spawn (1997), Mercury Rising (1998), Wes Craven's New Nightmare (1994), and his recurring role as Aaron on Full House from 1990 to 1995.

The actor and former politician popped up more than halfway through a chat that featured seven of the former child stars.

His fellow actors were clearly surprised and gasped when the legendary action hero appeared at the bottom of their screens.

'That is the coolest surprise, I would have never expected this. It's really good to hear you,'  Hughes said as Arnold settled in and got his screen centered.

The Terminator star opened by asking the other participants how they had been and looking for updates on their lives.

He also set plans in motion for an in-person reunion at his home once the pandemic had settled down enough for it to be safe.

'I think it was stupid for us not to do that in the past, but I think we should get together when this coronavirus is over, we should have a reunion. We can get together, have a party and get the gossip going,' he said.

In a sweet moment, Arnold revealed that filming Kindergarten Cop helped make him a better father to his daughter Katherine and her siblings that he would welcome in subsequent years by giving him a chance to spend time with young children on set.

A direct-to-video sequel - Kindergarten Cop 2- was released in 2016 starring Dolph Lundgren.
