Arise TV host blasts airline operators, demand sanctions by FCCPC, Minister
An Arise Television’s Morning Show programme host, Ayo Mairo-Ese has urged regulatory authorities in the aviation sector to sanction erring airlines, whom she alleged were treating consumers in an undignified manner.
She particularly called on the Minister of Aviation, Festus Keyamo, and the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission, FCCPC, to sanction erring airlines.
According to Ese, consumers would continue to suffer until there are heavy sanctions for erring airlines.
In a series of posts on her X handle on Friday, she lamented how passengers are short-changed, even when they book a flight for a particular time, check in at the counter over an hour early and are still told the flight left 3 hours early.
Ese alleged that this development comes often without giving any prior information, or notice via email, text messages or calls to passengers.
While condemning the practice, Ese noted that flight tickets are not cheap, yet when people make sacrifices to travel by air, they are treated shabbily.
“Why do we do this to ourselves in this country?
“You book a flight for a particular time, you get to the check-in counter over an hour before the time of flight then get told that the flight already left 3hrs prior? No notice. No email. No text. No call.
“Please make it make sense!!!!
This is not the first time this is happening and until there are HEAVY sanctions for erring airlines, consumers will continue to suffer.
“The tickets are NOT cheap, people make sacrifices to travel and then you treat consumers shabbily! It cannot be rocket science.
“It cannot be rocket science to make sense of aviation travel in Nigeria.
“We want investors to come in, we want Nigerians to fly Nigerian but operators do not want to do right by the people.
