Queen Letizia looked elegant in cream for the opening of a new exhibition at the Royal Palace in Madrid that marks 10 years since her husband, King Felipe VI, ascended the throne.

The Spanish royals were greeted by crowds of tourists for the unveiling of 'Felipe VI, a decade of the history of the Spanish Crown', a series of portraits of the family.

The 56-year-old monarch ascended the Spanish throne June 19, 2014, making yesterday his official 10-year anniversary as King.

Felipe succeeded his father, Emeritus King Juan Carlos, who was the head of state for 39 years before famously abdicating in 2014 when his popularity plummeted amid corruption allegations and affair rumours.

More recently, the King and Queen of Spain's marriage was rocked when Queen Letizia faced with unproven accusations of an affair with her ex-brother-in-law, Jaime del Burgo.

For the grand occasion at the Royal Palace, Queen Letizia, 51, wore a striking cream suit and relaxed white plimsolls, mixing and matching formal and casual styles.

This is an occurring theme with Letizia's recently sartorial choices, with the European royal recently opting for laid-back black sandals with her evening attire for a family night out at a concert to mark the 10th anniversary of King Felipe's proclamation.

To complement her smart-casual look, Queen Letizia wore her brown hair down, skimming her shoulders with a sleek blow dry, subtle makeup and understated gold jewellery for a relaxed overall look.

It's been a week of celebrations for Queen Letizia and the rest of the Spanish royal family, who have been attending events throughout the week to mark the 10th anniversary of King Felipe's proclamation.

Last night, Queen Letizia stepped out with her husband and their daughters Crown Princess Leonor, 18, and Princess Sofia, 17, for the Ara Malikian concert at the Royal Palace in Madrid on Wednesday evening.

Again the Spanish royal happily greeted members of the public as she arrived, stopping to shake hands and pose for pictures with excited royal fans.

Last month, Spanish journalist Jaime Peñafiel, 91, released a damning new book about the European Queen entitled 'Letizia's Silences' again bringing her reputation into question.

The book following his bestseller 'Letizia & I', which first alleged that Letizia had an affair with her ex brother-in-law Jamie del Burgo. In his new book, the royal reported alleges that Felipe was 'aware' of his wife's alleged infidelity 'in real time'.

Peñafie also accuses Queen Letizia of being 'cold, emotionally immature and passive aggressive' and makes unsubstantiated claims she is 'hated' by King Felipe's family.

The author also claims Felipe was left 'crushed and destroyed' by his wife's alleged cheating and that his wife's supposed 'betrayal' means he now 'wants to get out'.

Jaime Peñafiel was sacked by the Spanish newspaper El Mundo after 20 years earlier this year following the publication of first book on the Queen called 'Letizia & I'.
