Atlantic Canada, all-time June records will be shattered this week
Atlantic Canada, we are facing record-breaking heat, not in terms of the temperatures, but the humidx values. This heat Dome is going to be drawing up surges of tropical air from the Gulf of Mexico. We are going to frankly shatter a lot of these June humidx records. You see the old one, Moncton 40.6 back in June of 1969. We're forecasting humidx values pushing into the mid 40s there. It is Moncton breaking that record back in 2002 there and Fredericton very, very close this week, 44. This is the on the edge of climatology. So no, this is not just another summer day because by the time we get to humidx values of 45, it becomes dangerous for the susceptible populations, older individuals, those with underlying health conditions, possible heat stroke becomes a factor. And the overnight lows, that's where you typically can get the relief. You can open the windows, but you're going to be opening the windows to temperatures in the low to mid 20s through the overnight hours. That is likely going to break some all time minimum warm minimum temperature records. So look at that. Fredericton, we've got an overnight low of 23 in the forecast. That is quite dangerous. And here it is. The feels like temperatures really crank up on Tuesday across New Brunswick and then Wednesday, Thursday, this is the Nova Scotia story. So it's not a long duration heat event for Nova Scotia late Thursday. Look at this. We're forecasting a sharp cold front to come through that'll drop all the heat warnings in effect and get back closer to seasonal.
