Move over Prince Louis! Prince Julian of Sweden, 3, delights with his cheeky antics at playground opening

Prince Julian of Sweden displayed his cheeky side on Monday as he roamed around a new playground that has been named after the three-year-old royal.

And, as the young prince ran ahead of his parents, shimmied down the slide, hid in a wooden wendy house and stuck out his tongue, he showed a strong likeness with spirited Prince Louis, who this weekend delighted royal fans as he danced on Buckingham Palace's balcony during Trooping the Colour.

While the third son of Princess Sofia of Sweden, 39, and Prince Carl Philip of Sweeden, 45, is three years younger than the Prince and Princess of Wales' six-year-old Prince Louis, Prince Julian oozed the same boyish confidence at the playground opening at Naturum Getterön in Varberg on the west coast of Sweden.

Dressed in a miniature Ralph Lauren sweater and a pair of shorts, the Swedish prince raced into the playground once the banner had been cut.

His amused parents looked on and encouraged him by clapping as he tried out the different activities.

Proving himself to be a curious child as well as a natural performer, Prince Julian looked down an enormous telescope and took hold of a microphone in the bandstand area of the playground.

As he smiled widely, pulled faces and stuck out his tongue, Prince Julian's fun-loving and slightly cheeky character came to the fore.

Indeed, seeing the expressive young royal playing enthusiastically, royal fans will undoubtedly be reminded of King Charles's birthday celebrations last year when Prince Louis scrunched up his face and stuck out his arms to impersonate a jet plane.

At the playground opening, Prince Sofia wore a matching floral skirt and top with white trainers while Prince Carl Philip swapped his suit trousers for causal beige chinos.

Both of Prince Julian's parents appeared happy and relaxed as they watched their son play and helped him navigate the children's assault course, with Princess Sofia even sitting herself down on the sand at one point.

The royal couple were photographed exploring the playground hand in hand with Prince Julian.

The family toured the grounds of the new playground, stopping to cut the colourful ribbon in the shades of the Swedish flag to officially open it.

Princess Sofia and Prince Carl Philip share three children: Prince Alexander, seven, Prince Gabriel, six, and Prince Julian, three.

In 2019, King Carl XVI Gustaf decided that Princess Sofia's sons, as well as those of Prince Carl Philip's sister Princess Madeline, will neither have HRH titles nor recieve tax payer funds, affording them greater freedom when they're older.

Yesterday, Princess Sofia and Prince Carl Philip attended  a boat party in Stockholm with other Swedish royals to celebrate Queen Silvia's 80th birthday.

The boat party was hosted by King Harald and Queen Sonja.

While Queen Silvia, who is the mother of Prince Carl Philip, turned 80 last year on 23rd December 2023, the family waited until now to celebrate with a party.

On Saturday 15 June, a private birthday party with 275 guests was held at Stockholm Castle.
