Good Morning Britain's Ed Balls 'fat-shamed' on air as ITV show abruptly cuts to break

Good Morning Britain faced a barrage of backlash this morning (June 17) as the ITV set descended into choas with presenter Ed Balls being insulted by a guest.

Noel Edmonds was on the ITV breakfast show, chatting to Ed and Susanna Reid about how important radio is to him, after not being on the TV for the past 10 years. But mid way through the interview Susanna introduced Noel's former co-star Mr Blobby as she said he would be making a special appearance.

The huge pink character burst through the doors and instantly grabbed hold of Noel. Susanna laughed heartily before Noel stood up and began wrestling with Mr Blobby.

He said: "The only thing that can be said about this..." Susanna suggested: "Yeah, was never ever do it again?"

But Noel ignored her as he continued: "Is it makes Ed look slim?" Susanna exclaimed: "Oh!" as she began to laugh and the camera panned to a horrified looking Ed.

His mouth was wide open, with his jaw to the floor as Mr Blobby then went for him instead and they cut to a break.

Coming back from the break, the ITV programme showed a clip of Mr Blobby on the floor as Susanna and Ed looked horrified and the studio table had gone flying. Susanna explained: "That was the aftermath of the interview with Noel Edmonds and a special guest appearance by Mr Blobby."

The clip showed crew members coming running towards the sofa to give the 90's TV legend a hand to get back up, as Susanna continued: "Who actualy stuck around to help right the table. Kind of. He knelt on the table as we thanked our guests."

She added: "He then got back on the table and carried on creating chaos!" Ed said: "To say that was memorable would be an understatement."

While the show's presenters seemed to see the funny side of the outrageous segment, fans on X (formerly Twitter) seemed to be outraged on Ed's behalf. One user wrote: "#noeledmunds #gmb that was rude Noel and you know it."

Another added: "Noel Edmonds so rude. Absolutely no need to say that to Ed #GMB." A third penned: "Noel Edmond's just fat shamed @edballs using Mr Blobby. #GMB."

Someone else wrote: "Oh Noel, you didn't need to go there with the Ed Balls weight comment! I still love you. Je ne sais pas pourquoi. #GMB #NoelEdmonds."

But one user disagreed as they wrote: "That's not fat shaming. It's an old expression of fun and banter. #GMB We had fun in the 90s."
