Jean Smart and Hannah Einbinder Talk Mushrooms, Stand-Up, and "Hacks" Season 3 | IMDb
She's calmed by shiny objects. Have you noticed Paul, Lucia and Jen start to integrate any elements of you personally into your characters? There are two elements that I would say one is Ava has a fascination with mycology this season. She's kind of an amateur. I'm an amateur as well. But not not. She's like she does. She can't spot like a Chantrelle. Yeah, you need to explain to the audience maybe what? Oh, yeah. Like the study of fungi, mushrooms. I'm her translator. She also is really in. She drinks like matcha. That's her thing. And I I to do that. So I would say those two things probably. What is this? Oh, that's my matcha latte station. You're not bringing that Gino, but you anything as ritually specific as that. My pause is more like when she would say something that I thought was just absurd. I would just milk it and milk it and milk it. Jen Sadowski said one time I took 8 seconds before I went. What? Jean has an extreme love of Christmas, and so does Deborah Vance. And you may see more of that. I mean, you saw it in season 2. You saw her Christmas room, but you may be seeing more of that in season three. And you will, Deborah. Yeah, you will. I'm hiding out in Deborah's Christmas room. Somehow it feels racist in here, but I can't explain why. The elements of Ava's comedic sensibility that have found their way into your stand up or your comedy in general. Well, I would say that acting has made me a better comic. My comedy style always involved a great deal of theatrics, but I think acting has deteriorated any of the last walls that I had up. Yeah, but she's not giving herself total credit because when I first Googled her, you know, before we even cast her, I just was so impressed by how comfortable she was on stage and how funny it wasn't, how specific and how unusual, you know, And just got a great style gene. Speaking of style, have you started to absorb some of Deborah's taste for the gaudier things into your life? I think I can't help but have picked up some of her rhythms and things. Deborah and I both like leopard print and sparkly items, and it's like, you know, she's calmed by shiny objects. People in this part of the country don't understand fashion, so the best stuff gets passed over when you're looking at season three. And we have so many amazing guest stars. Were there any were particularly excited to direct? Christopher Lloyd is such an icon. And I actually wrote my senior college thesis on Back to the Future. And so I was like already a super fan and he was so funny and great and he really plays a very, very fun, unique, bizarre character. And he absolutely delivered. Anyone you were particularly smitten with to get to work with this season. Oh, well, you said smitten. It's Tony Goldwyn, the nicest, handsomest, most charming, fabulous guy in the world. Of course, Christina Hendricks, who I Mad Men is my favorite show. And so I've seen it like 7 times all the way through. And I mean, I just, I was like, I you, it, I thank, I thank you, I you, you know, I just like totally. She was like, thank you, honey.
