Nestle denies press reports' claim of having suspended one-liter Perrier bottles
The commune of Valges in southern France is home to Perrier, the beloved sparkling mortar salt widely across the world, but the production of its one litre bottles has been temporarily suspended, according to French media outlets Le Monde and Radio France, a move that its parent company Nestle denies. We are carrying out maintenance operations on two of our wells. This is a regular maintenance operation. Just two months ago, some 3 million bottles were destroyed and a part of its production suspended under government orders following suspicions of contamination with fecal bacteria, a series of events that are worrying local residents. It's very bad news because Perrier has always been synonymous with values. It means employment and prosperity for the village. Experts say a possible course could be a mix of rainwater and wastewater after multiple bouts of heavy rain. This can be blamed on the recent prolonged and intense rain. It's probably occurred already in the past. And will probably become more intense in the years to come, especially due to climate change. Nestle says the closure of the wells will not impact its employees.
