Bryson DeChambeau blasted for hypocrisy

Over the past few years, LIV Golf superstar Bryson DeChambeau has developed a reputation as being a patriotic and All-American type of player – especially considering his warm relationship with former United States President Donald Trump – attracting many right-wing supporters as a result. But as one sports commentator points out, DeChambeau is guilty of some hypocrisy in this regard.

On Sunday afternoon, Bryson DeChambeau out-dueled Rory McIlroy to win the U.S. Open championship. As he competed down the stretch, he was treated to “USA” chants of support from the crowd.

But as Alex Kirshner of the Split Zone Duo points out, this is a little bit hypocritical given that DeChambeau plays for LIV Golf, which is completely funded by the Saudi Arabian government.

“Why is Bryson, the one player in contention who literally works for a foreign government, the guy who gets ‘USA-USA’ chants at the U.S. Open?” Kirshner said in a post on X, the social media website that was formerly known as Twitter.

LIV Golf is fully funded through Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund. So all of the money that the players receive on the tour comes directly from a foreign government that does not necessarily have a very warm relationship with the United States.
