Rory McIlroy declined interview with NBC after botching U.S. Open

Rory McIlroy was in no mood to talk with the media after choking away the U.S. Open on Sunday.
McIlroy missed two short putts and finished his final round at Pinehurst No. 2 with three bogeys over the final four holes to lose out to Bryson DeChambeau.
DeChambeau finished the tournament 6-under par while McIlroy finished in second place at 5-under.
As NBC was concluding its broadcast and showing a graphic of the final results, announcer Dan Hicks noted that McIlroy had declined an interview with the network.
“It’s heartbreak for Rory McIlroy. We did ask to interview Rory. He declined,” Hicks said.
McIlroy also left the clubhouse and got into his car without speaking to the rest of the media.
McIlroy’s frustration is certainly understandable, but as a top golfer and second-place finisher at the U.S. Open, he should be speaking with the media and answering questions after a major.
The 35-year-old McIlroy has won four majors during his career, but has not captured one since 2014.
