Switzerland Assures Putin Safe Passage

Switzerland has assured Russian President Vladimir Putin that he will not face arrest in the country if he attends potential peace negotiations for Ukraine, despite an international arrest warrant issued against him by the International Criminal Court.

According to Digi24 President Viola Amherd made this commitment following a summit hosted by Switzerland, dedicated to fostering peace in Ukraine. She clarified that exceptions to the warrant exist specifically for negotiation purposes, as outlined during a press conference post-summit.

Diplomatic Success at Peace Summit

The recent summit, co-hosted by Switzerland and Ukraine, garnered significant international support for Ukraine's cause, with numerous world leaders in attendance.

Switzerland, pleased with the outcome, expressed readiness to engage further with countries that did not participate, including China.

Swiss Foreign Minister Ignazio Cassis highlighted that most decisions made at the conference require Russian participation for implementation, underscoring the importance of ongoing dialogue.

Continuing Peace Talks

Discussions regarding peace in Ukraine, initiated at the luxurious Burgenstock resort in Switzerland, may continue at an as-yet-undetermined location before the upcoming US presidential elections in November.

Minister Cassis indicated that Switzerland would inform Russia and other concerned nations about the summit's outcomes, emphasizing the potential for ongoing diplomatic efforts to resolve the Ukrainian conflict peacefully.
