New York Knicks Acquire Mikal Bridges In Blockbuster Trade

The New York Knicks and Brooklyn Nets have agreed in principle on a blockbuster trade which sends Mikal Bridges to the Knicks for a package of Bojan Bogdanovic and four first-round picks, according to Adrian Wojnarowski.

"BREAKING: The Brooklyn Nets have agreed in principle on a trade to send F Mikal Bridges to the New York Knicks for Bojan Bogdanovic, four unprotected first-round picks, a protected first-round pick via Bucks, an unprotected pick swap and a second-rounder, sources tell ESPN."

The price of six first-round picks is an incredibly expensive cost to bear for the Knicks, but they'll be happy to do so as they get to add Bridges while maintaining their core of Jalen Brunson, Josh Hart, Julius Randle, and Donte DiVincenzo. To protect the players, the Knicks have given up one of the most expensive trade packages from a draft pick perspective.

The Nets will receive four unprotected picks from the Knicks in 2025, 2027, 2029, and 2031, along with one pick swap in an undisclosed year. The Nets will also receive a pick from the Milwaukee Bucks, a partially-protected pick in the 2030 NBA Draft.

Bridges averaged 19.6 points, 4.5 rebounds, and 3.6 assists last season. He was college teammates with Brunson, Hart, and DiVincenzo, with Brunson and Hart previously recruiting Bridges to join the Knicks. Now that this has come to reality, the Knicks will emerge as one of the top contenders in the East.

This complicates their re-signing of OG Anunoby, who's expected to receive a massive contract offer in free agency after the Knicks haven't gotten him to agree on a new contract. Keeping both Anunoby and Bridges would probably make the Knicks one of the scariest defensive teams in the NBA, but that would be a significant challenge if Anunoby receives offers for more than $40 million annually.

The Nets have also made additional trades which saw them give up two of the picks they received in the Kevin Durant trade with the Suns to the Rockets so that the Nets could get their own picks back, which they had initially tarded to acquire James Harden in 2021.
