Kylian Mbappe makes feelings clear after Real Madrid block Olympics call-up

Kylian Mbappe understands Real Madrid's decision to block him from playing in the Paris Olympics this summer.

Los Blancos have blocked a French contingent of Mbappe, Aurelien Tchouameni and Eduardo Camavinga from competing in the under-23s competition. The competition allows for a number of overage players to also feature.

There was speculation over Mbappe's place as he departed Paris Saint-Germain this summer for pastures new. The 25-year-old confirmed his move to the Bernabeu earlier this month.

Mbappe joined the Champions League-winners on a free transfer from PSG but certainly didn't come cheap. The France superstar signed a five-year contract worth £12.8million per season, with the prospect of an eye-watering signing-on fee worth between £103m-£128m to be included.

La Liga's newest star was not critical of his club in the slightest when asked about seeing his bid to play in the Olympics blocked. "My club's position is very clear and I understand that," Mbappe said. "I will not be there. I understand my club's position as I am a newcomer. I hope we win the Games."

Mbappe will lead France's hopes at Euro 2024. Finding success is the only thing on his mind this summer and he looked to put fitness concerns to one side.

"I'm ready to win, it's more of a mental issue," he said. "My head is perfect, now let's see how my legs are."

Mbappe's role for the tournament is not a certain one. Les Bleus get their tournament underway on Monday against Austria in a tricky group with Netherlands and Poland.

The Dutch side came away with a 2-1 win thanks to goals from Cody Gakpo and Wout Weghorst. That will put France under pressure to at least match the scoreline.

Mbappe is prepared to be flexible to do so. "I have spoken with the coach and he has told me that I can play in several positions this time and that it is not a problem. It doesn't matter where I play because I am ready to play and adapt," Mbappe said.
