Bryson DeChambeau claimed he was broke after signing £100m LIV Golf contract
Bryson DeChambeau once jokingly claimed he was left counting his pennies despite being part of the LIV Golf tour.
The American was one of the highest profile players to depart the PGA Tour and join the Saudi-backed rebel tour in 2022. DeChambeau signed a deal understood to be worth around $125m (£100m) when he was convinced to defect.
After signing the deal, the 2020 US Open winner said he re-invested an awful lot of his funds into other endeavours. After he poured his significant wealth into these other projects, DeChambeau joked that he was left broke after his spending sprees.
While speaking to the Country Club Adjacent podcast, DeChambeau said: “What’s cool about it though is that I’ve already put it [the money] in places that make sense.
"Whether it’s my foundation, or real estate, being able to build a multi-sport complex, or taking care of my family, taking care of what we’ve got going with our content creation Regecy, numerous other things too. So, it’s already moved. I’m again broke.”
The podcast's Instagram page also had a tiny dig of their own at the Californian. After thanking him for appearing on their show, they laughed at his idea of being broke, even though they knew he was being tongue in cheek.

Their caption said: "Bryson is all around good s***. Honoured to call you a friend. Although we have slightly different definitions of what it means to be broke."
When he decided to join the Saudi Arabian backed tour, DeChambeau claimed the extra money earned would help him invest in the Dallas community he resides in. He said: “One of the things for me it was a personal business decision. For me I run and operate my golf as a business as well as wanting to be one of the better players in the world.
"Second off, it was going to give me more resources and opportunities to reinvest in my local community, in Dallas, and back at my original home in California. I can do things for junior golf tours, improve my foundation, and also build the multi-sport complex I’m going to build here shortly in Dallas.

"It will also give me more time to rest, the ability to have weeks off and recover my body in the way I want to so that I can be prepared to give it my all when it comes time, not be depleted every week and continuing to get depleted over the course of time.
“So that was one of the things. And then the last part is I saw that first event in London and how much fun everybody was having. That was exciting to me. And I wanted to be a part of something like that.”
DeChambeau looks set to build on his already enormous wealth this weekend at the US Open. The American is three shots clear of the rest going into Sunday's final round at Pinehurst, with Rory McIlroy among those hot on his tail.
