PITTSBURGH – For the second straight year, the Pittsburgh Penguins and Ottawa Senators will compete in a special preseason matchup. Ahead of the 2023-24 season, the Penguins and Senators faced off in the Nova Scotia Showdown.
For the 2024 preseason, the Pens and Sens will meet in Elliot Late, Ontario for Kraft Hockeyville. Elliot Lake was chosen as this years winner of Hockeyville and the Penguins will take on the Senators on September 29.
This will be the third time the Penguins have participated in the Kraft Hockeyville sweepstakes, having hosted twice before in Western Pennsylvania. In 2015 the Penguins took on the Tampa Bay Lightning at the Cambria County War Memorial Arena in Johnstown, PA. Then in 2017 the Penguins played at the UPMC Lemieux Complex after Rostraver Ice Garden in Belle Vernon, PA was selected.
“Having grown up in Northern Ontario, I understand how impactful the event will be for the people of Elliot Lake and the surrounding area,” Penguins president and general manager Kyle Dubas said. “The investment in Elliot Lake and the game itself provide the Penguins with a great opportunity to contribute to the growth of the sport in an area of the world that truly loves ice hockey!”
The Penguins lost 3-0 to the Senators in last year’s specialty preseason game in Nova Scotia.
