Russian Forces Claim New Village in Southern Ukraine

The Russian military announced on Sunday that it had captured another village in southern Ukraine, marking a gradual advancement on the front lines. This comes amid ongoing challenges faced by the Ukrainian military, including shortages of personnel and ammunition.
Progress in Zaporizhzhia Region
According to the Russian Ministry of Defense, units from the Eastern Military Group successfully liberated the village of Zagirné in the Zaporizhzhia region.
"The units of the Eastern Military Group have liberated the locality of Zagirné and have occupied more favorable positions," stated the ministry in its daily report according to 20 minutes.

Three More Villages Captured
The Russian army has been making incremental gains in Ukraine for several months, particularly in the eastern regions, without achieving a significant breakthrough.
Before claiming Zagirné, Russian forces reported capturing three other villages this week in the eastern, southern, and northeastern parts of Ukraine.
Last week, Russian President Vladimir Putin reported that his forces had captured nearly 340 square miles of territory and around fifty localities since the beginning of the year.
Challenges for the Ukrainian Army
On May 10, Russian forces launched an offensive in the Kharkiv region (northeast), seizing several localities before being halted by reinforcements sent by Kyiv.
The Ukrainian military has been grappling with a shortage of soldiers and munitions for months, attributed to a slow mobilization process and delays in the delivery of Western arms.
These challenges have significantly impacted their ability to mount effective defenses and counter-offensives against the advancing Russian forces.
