Luis Diaz Scores And Assists For Colombia In Chaos Filled Bolivia Friendly

While Liverpool’s European contingent are in the first round of the UEFA Euros, the South American lads are still undergoing preparations ahead of this summer’s Copa America. Luis Diaz was in action on Saturday in a final tune up for Colombia in a friendly against Bolivia. Of course, friendlies against regional foes don’t necessarily stay friendly.

Diaz was the star of the match, jinking and jiving past players down the left wing with aplomb. His fancy footwork and driving runs saw him at his creative best. He created the opening goal for Colombia with a run forward into the box that saw the ball fall to Jhon Arias to finish. While Diaz was not credited with an assist for the first action, he would get credit 20 minutes later after sending a low ball into the box that was turned home by John Cordova.

Diaz was not done yet as he put on a dribbling clinic in the 42nd minute. He juked his way past two defenders before unleashing a rocket to the far post for the third goal of the match. It was also a significant moment for Diaz, with the goal being the 100th of his senior career for club and country.

With Colombia up 3-0, Bolivia began to get more physical in the second half. The match boiled over in the 67th minute when Diaz was taken down from behind by a terrible scissor tackle by Hector Cuellar. The tackle sparked a melee on the pitch, with one player from each side being shown straight red cards as tempers boiled over. Cuellar was only shown a yellow for the tackle itself.

Diaz was thankfully ok after everything and was able to play on. He was thankfully substituted out a few minutes later.

Diaz and Colombia will kick off their opening Copa America match against Paraguay on June 24. Colombia will also face Costa Rica and Brazil in group play.
