Hockey Hall Of Fame Announces the Class of 2024

The Hockey Hall of Fame announced its class of 2024 Tuesday, and a full slate of seven individuals were honored with induction into the Hall.

Longtime NHL stars Pavel Datsyuk, Shea Weber, Jeremy Roenick will be inducted, as well as women’s hockey stars Natalie Darwitz and Krissy Wendell-Pohl. In the builders category, longtime GM David Poile and NHL executive Colin Campbell also got the nod.

Datsyuk's inclusion is no surprise, as the Detroit Red Wings superstar played 953 career regular-season NHL games and amassed 604 assists and 918 points in that span. The 45-year-old Russian is a member of the esteemed “Triple Gold Club,” with a Stanley Cup, Olympic gold medal and IIHF World Championship gold to his credit.

Datsyuk also earned the respect of his peers with his gentlemanly, two-way play that earned him four Lady Byng Trophies as the player who best exemplified sportsmanship, as well as three Frank J. Selke Trophies as the NHL forward who thrives on the defensive end of things. Datsyuk has two Cups on his resume, in addition to a Gagarin Cup championship with KHL St. Petersburg in 2017.

As for Weber, the veteran star defenseman logged 1,038 career regular-season games, generating 365 assists and 589 points while winning two Olympic gold medals and a gold medal at the World Cup of Hockey. Weber last played in 2021 but is currently on contract for two more seasons with the Utah Hockey Club.

His impact on the teams he played for – the Nashville Predators and Montreal Canadiens – cannot be overstated. Weber was a three-time finalist for the Norris Trophy as the game’s top defenseman, and he was captain of both teams.

Roenick, meanwhile, played 1,363 regular-season NHL games, amassing 703 assists and 1,216 points. Regarded as one of the best American-born players in league history, the 54-year-old is renowned for his outspoken demeanor and his all-around joy for the game.

This was the first time since 2010 that two women were inducted in the same year. Darwitz earned two Olympic silver medals and a bronze for Team USA in addition to three World Championship gold medals and two Four Nations Cup gold medals. The former USA Captain was also inducted to the IIHF Hall of Fame in 2024. The 40-year-old recently served as the GM of the PWHL's championship-winning team from Minnesota.

Wendell-Pohl, another captain for Team USA and teammate of Darwitz, has one Olympic silver medal and one Olympic bronze medal to her credit, as well as a World Championship gold medal. She is also a two-time NCAA champion, a Patty Kazmaier Award winner in 2004-05, recording an outstanding 104 points in 40 games. Wendell-Pohl was inducted into the U.S. Hockey Hall of Fame in 2019-20, one season after Darwitz.

As for Poile, the longtime GM of the Nashville Predators and Washington Capitals, he became the winningest GM in NHL history in 2018 with his 1,320th win as a GM, surpassing the record previously held by Glen Sather. He retired after 3075 games as GM and 1,533 wins. And Campbell, who has served as an NHL executive for decades, is one of the longest-serving executives in NHL history. Currently, the 71-year-old Canadian is the senior executive vice-president at the NHL's hockey operations, officiating and central scouting departments.

The induction ceremony for the seven honorees will take place in Toronto on Nov. 11.
