Tampa Trouble: 'Don't Be That Guy!' Warns Bucs Coach Todd Bowles
What's the message to his Tampa Bay Buccaneers from coach Todd Bowles, and if you follow the way the NFL offseason works, you know exactly what he's saying.
"There’s a lot of things that can happen between here and next month,'' Bowles said of the break between the just-finished minicamp and the late-July training camp reporting date. "Don’t be that guy getting in trouble.”
The Bucs and all the NFL teams take this break. It's free time for the fellas ... and in too many cases, trouble time.
Tampa Trouble: 'Don't Be That Guy!' Warns Bucs Coach Todd Bowles
That's what Bowles is talking about ... just part of an overall message of readiness.
He did note the positives of the team's recent work.
"I thought we made good progress with the learning, especially on the offensive side of the ball.," Bowles said. "The communication picked up on defense. We’ve got a lot of young guys – they need a lot of reps. A lot of them took reps today and we’re going to get a lot of reps. We’re going to get a lot more once training camp starts, but I thought it ended on a good note.”
So what should the fellas take with them for the next few weeks?
“Just the understanding of what we have ahead of us. We play both Super Bowl teams, we play everybody that was in the championship game, plus the division itself and some other teams," Bowles said. "We’re going to have a hell of a schedule. We know how hot it’s going to be in summer. It’s really just coming back in shape, ready to compete.''
Oh. And "don't be that guy.''
