R&B singer Angela Bofill dies at 70

Angela Bofill, the R&B singer best known for “This Time I’ll Be Sweeter,” has died at 70 years old.

Her death was announced in two posts on her personal Facebook page, but a cause was not named.

“On behalf of my dear friend Angie, I am saddened to announce her passing on the morning of June 13th,” the first post read, with an announcement for a funeral to be held at St. Dominick's Church in California on June 28.

Angela’s manager and friend Rich Engel confirmed in a follow-up post that the death was true.

“Just to clear up the confusion. On behalf of [Angela’s daughter] Shauna Bofill, [her] husband Chris Portuguese, we are saddened but must report that the passing of Angela yesterday is indeed true.”

Angela suffered two strokes in 2006 and 2007. In 2020, she was the subject of death rumors.

The singer visited the Philippines several times. In 1983, she performed at the Araneta Coliseum, and in the same year, made a cameo in the film “Friends in Love” where she and Sharon Cuneta sang “This Time I’ll Be Sweeter.”

In 2004, she had two shows at Merk’s Bar Bistro in Makati City in 2004. Following this, she released the album “Live in Manila” in 2006, her first and only live album.

Known for her sweet and soulful vocals, more of Angela’s hits include “You Should Know By Now,” “Tonight I Give In,” “Break It to Me Gently,” and “I Try.”
