New York Yankees' Gerrit Cole 'giddy' after latest injury rehab outing
New York Yankees ace Gerrit Cole isn't sure exactly when he will return from the injured list, but he's certainly excited about the direction he's heading.
Ahead of Saturday's game against the Boston Red Sox, Cole was described as "giddy" when he met with the media at Fenway Park following his latest outing amid an injury rehab assignment.
Cole should feel that way after what was his third rehab appearance and his first with the Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Railriders.
Cole was dominant during his Friday night outing in Rochester. Extending to 70 pitches, Cole tossed 4.1 innings allowing two hits, one run (unearned), no walks while striking out 10. He also generated 21 whiffs.
Owning the best record in MLB entering Saturday, the Yankees aren't going to rush Cole back. This is especially true considering how well the starting rotation is pitching.
Regardless, it seems like Cole's return is right around the corner even with a potential debut against the Baltimore Orioles with a division series on deck after this trip to Boston.
