‘Nothing has changed, Zuma will face ANC’s disciplinary hearing,’ says Mbalula

ANC secretary-general Fikile Mbalula has confirmed that even with their “40% elections results” the disciplinary hearing against “defiant” former President Jacob Zuma will continue.

“The DC against Zuma will continue, nothing has changed. We said that before the elections that it must be postponed to after the elections. That disciplinary process will continue,” he said.

The ANC had postponed Zuma’s hearing until after the 2024 national and provincial elections that took place last month.

According for the ANC, the hearing was postponed because of the security concerns and fears of violence before the election.

This is despite Zuma saying he is still the member of the ANC.

Mbalula was addressing the media following the first sitting of the National Council of Provinces (NCOP) in Cape Town on Saturday.

According to Mbalula, this is to send a message that the ANC is prepared for renewal and working on improving themselves.

“If we are going to bend on the fundamentals for political convenience, the ANC will not exist as a party.

“Even at the moment where we are at 40%, that DC will happen and it cannot be changed because if we change it then ANC members will say those who have been subjected to the authority of the disciplinary process will ask, 'why should I not be subjected to the DC when it actually chooses people. So the DC will continue,' he said.

The party is accusing Zuma of violating rule 25 of the ANC's constitution by showing support for another political party.

In this case, Zuma formed the uMkhonto weSizwe (MK) Party in December last year in Soweto, claiming that he was rescuing the ANC.

MKP is now the third largest party with 14.58% nationally after the electoral results were announced in May.

It has 58 seats in the National Assembly and 37 seats in the KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) provincial legislature with 45.35%.
