The Open Field: Which UDFAs will make this year’s Seahawks roster?
One of the great feats of Seattle Seahawks football under Pete Carroll has been the ability to find positive contributions from undrafted free agents. Doug Baldwin has etched his name into Seattle’s record books as one of the best receivers in franchise history, Jermaine Kearse has two NFC Championship winning touchdowns on his ledger, Michael Bennett returned to the Seahawks after a stint with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and anchored the defensive line, Poona Ford and Bryan Mone were solid run defenders during their time in Seattle, and Jake Bobo is an assumed first-ballot Hall of Fame talent.

On offense, Westover and Holani are the top two names with a real chance to make the 53-man roster. Westover was a good tight end for offensive coordinator Ryan Grubb at Washington, and Holani could replace DeeJay Dallas as a third down running back. Idaho’s Hayden Hatten is another one to pay close attention to in the competitive battle to make the wide receiver group. Defensively, Nelson Ceaser is one I’m keeping an eye on as a versatile edge rusher. Wyoming’s Easton Gibbs has a chance to impress and bolster Seattle’s linebacker depth. Carlton Johnson may have an uphill battle given Seattle’s cornerback situation, but his speed and special teams potential could give him a shot at making the regular season roster.
