First Canadian commercial electric flight soars over Vancouver Island
In Campbell River Friday, aviation history was made. Canada's first ever commercial electric aircraft took flight. It happened at Sealand Flights Aviation School with an all electric Vellus Electro aircraft. 15 year old Edwin Clements received a lesson in the aircraft from instructor Ian Lamont. Well, it's pretty fun. It was considering the weather, a little bit bumpy, but. This really fun ride, it's pretty quiet. It's really, really cool experience. The teens parents were among those who watched Fruity Fraud. Pretty excited he's over the moon. I've never seen him so excited about something as he is for this landing. All the approvals was years in the making, but well worth it, says the school's chief flight instructor. The price of fuel avgas today is over $80.00 an hour for the fuel burn in a 172. And this is going to be less than $2.00 in electricity. So try banking the plane a little bit to the right. There we go. For those involved, it was an unforgettable day. It's just a moment in history. First commercial electric flight in Canada. It's, it's a big moment for, well, the future. The momentous flight is expected to be just the beginning as the industry moves towards sustainable aviation. Catherine Urquhart, Global News.
